Did you know Earth Day has been around for 52 years? Clearly, folks were concerned about the state of the planet before I was even born, yet here we are today with an urgency to reduce carbon emissions like never before and often a feeling of powerlessness to do anything. I know I can relate to that feeling.
But today is not the day for my negative energy. I would rather channel it into something positive. On that note, I am sharing the Earth Day website’s message and a few simple ideas for honoring the planet.
All TOGETHER now!
This is the moment to change it all — the business climate, the political climate, and how we take action on climate. Now is the time for the unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods… together, we must Invest In Our Planet.
Because a green future is a prosperous future.
We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.
And while there is still time to solve the climate crisis, time to choose BOTH a prosperous and sustainable future, and time to restore nature and build a healthy planet for our children and their children, time is short.
The Earth Day 2022 Theme is Invest In Our Planet. What Will You Do?
Yes, what will you do? What can we do?
To start, go outside. Close your eyes and listen, feel the breeze – or the rain or the warmth of the sun. Run your hand through the grass or grab a handful of earth (but leave it there). Spot a bird. Give a silent or loud shout out to the planet for providing all this. A little grounding never hurts!
When you have done that, you are hopefully inspired and energized to engage in some partnership with our planet. Here are some ideas:
· Plant some bee friendly plants.
· Cook a plant-based meal.
· Walk or bike instead of drive.
· Add Ecosia as your search engine extension.
· Pick up litter in your neighborhood or do some “plogging” (jogging and litter pick up combined)
· Sign a petition on earthday.org (US) or wwf.de (Germany)
In the spirit of being “all in together”, we can use the comments to ask questions, share experiences and stories, encouraging one another along the way.
Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day, Rachel!
Glad to know about Ecosia...
